Reflexology
What is the purpose of Reflexology?
Reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet that correspond to every part of the body. Through application of pressure on these areas, reflexology can relieve tension, improve circulation and promote the natural function of the related areas of the body in a natural way. Reflexology is extremely safe. Reflexology is a complementary therapy and is not a substitute for medical advice or treatment. The ultimate purpose of the therapy is to promote wellness and is a form of preventative therapy. |
What will happen during my treatment?
In your first treatment, a medical history will be taken and a full consultation will take place to determine your desired outcome and your main areas of concern. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions. Then, you will be asked to remove your shoes and socks and pull up your trousers/ skirt to your knee. The treatment takes place lying on a couch, and is very relaxing. Your feet will be cleansed, and then foot powder applied to begin. Firm pressure will be applied all over your feet, starting with your toes. (Most clients with ticklish feet can still enjoy reflexology because of the firm pressure). The whole foot is covered and where any blockages are found, more time will be spent focussing on that area. At the end of the treatment, lotion will be applied to your foot and lower leg and a post treatment massage will be carried out. Then any findings will be discussed at the end of the treatment and you will be issued with after care advice to take away with you. A relevant course of treatments will also be recommended to help you benefit fully.

How will I feel after my treatment?
After a reflexology treatment, most people feel very relaxed and either a bit sleepy or energised by the treatment. Your body will naturally eliminate toxins that have been broken down during the treatment, and you will receive an after care card to help you further.
Some people can react to reflexology in a seemingly negative way (e.g. feeling tired, sick, off-colour or tearful). Most people sleep well after treatment, but some find that their sleep is disturbed. These reactions are normal, and a response to the body ridding itself of toxins; they will normally stop after a few treatments.
